We will launch a petition to overturn the decision on the allocation of land to the Kosovo MIA if the Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government approves it, Aleksandar Arsenijević, the leader of Serbian Democracy party, said in a statement for KoSSev, after the North Mitrovica Municipal Assembly, outside of the announced agenda, decided to allocate land near the Vojni Remont site to the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Arsenijević immediately objected to this decision at the MA session today.
He asked the chairman of the Assembly of this municipality, Nedžad Ugljanin, to work in „the interest of the citizens, not the police or other institutions.“
„I am begging you and appealing to you to work in the interest of the citizens, not the police or any other institution. You are citizens’ representatives and as such you must respect the will of all citizens, both the majority population and minorities. You did not publish the discussion in the media, nor did we even know that there was any discussion regarding item 2 which is a very serious item for all of us. You didn’t give an explanation or anything else. I am begging and appealing to you to stop doing things like this, and we will start a petition to overturn this decision from point 2. Just tell us where we can do so.“
He also accused the current convocation of this Assembly of „doing things as twice as bad as Srpska Lista did“:
„And we believed there was nothing worse than them.“
In a follow-up statement for KoSSev, he said that he did not go to the session on purpose, but that he was surprised when he saw point 2 – the allocation of land near the Vojni Remont to the Kosovo MIA.
„The Mitrovica Hall, the Sports Hall, and the Provisional Authority of the Municipality of Kosovska Mitrovica are situated there. It was put to a vote on the proposal of the mayor, which means that the citizens themselves were not informed about such a big decision. Transparency procedures were not adhered to for such a big matter.“
He emphasized that this decision was made by “local councillors in their technical mandate“.
According to Arsenijević, they had no right to make such big decisions, which they tried to do by changing the statute, but they were unsuccessful:
„They are not legitimate councillors, the majority Serbian population lives here. We have only one Serb councilor there, and decisions such as this one are made.“
Changing the statute of the municipality of North Mitrovica was an item on the agenda today, but it was not adopted.
„We reacted, and if the Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government approves this decision, we will start a petition under Article 72 of the Law on Local Self-Government, which is the collection of 10% of votes to overturn the decision,“ he stressed.
He also commented on the petition for the recall of the mayor that has already entered the procedure.
Arsenijević heard that a problem has arisen in that process because the chairman of the North Mitrovica MA claims that before the initiative group starts collecting signatures, the same MA must approve the place where they planned to collect them.
„First of all, I think that Erden Atić himself should have a moral obligation to resign now. And now we hear that the initiators of the petition for his removal must get approval for the place where they will collect signatures, otherwise they will not accept it. That’s why I deliberately asked him today at the session, to tell us where we can collect signatures if we start a petition to overturn today’s decision. He didn’t answer.“
