The Kosovo Office reacted to this morning’s arrests of two ethnic Serbs in North Mitrovica and Zvecan, sharing new details and the full names of the arrested individuals. Srpska Lista also reacted, calling on KFOR and EULEX to “urgently prevent incursions by special forces and other provocations by Kurti’s regime, which threaten the peace and cause tensions.”
According to the Kosovo Office, D.M., who was arrested in Zvecan, is reportedly a former policeman. Both he and I.E., who has a serious health condition, are displaced persons. The Kosovo Office assigned lawyers for both of them.
„They were taken in an unknown direction, south of the Ibar, and the Kosovo Office immediately assigned lawyers to the arrested Serbs who are trying to determine their whereabouts, because even the families do not have detailed information about their loved ones,“ they added.
In their words, the arrests present „new intimidation and persecution of Serbs“, with the aim of causing new tensions and crises on the ground:
„Obviously, this is part of the threats of the anti-Serb regime from Pristina that the Serbs will suffer and pay.“
As particularly indicative, they highlighted the fact that this morning’s arrest took place at the very moment when the United Nations General Assembly was taking place in New York, where President Aleksandar Vucic will “defend the interests of Serbia and underscore to the entire international community the importance of respecting international law and norms, as well as the endangered rights of Kosovo Serbs.”
The Office will inform the international representatives, as well as missions in Kosovo, about the latest arrests. T
wo ethnic Serbs – I.E. and D.M. – were arrested this morning, the former was arrested near the Technical School in North Mitrovica, and the latter in Zvecan.
Although the North Directorate could not specify which units participated in these arrests this morning, they later confirmed that this region provided assistance to the units from Pristina during both arrests.
They could not specify the exact reason or on the account of what criminal charges the two men were arrested.
According to KoSSev’s unofficial findings, they were reportedly arrested on war crimes charges.
The largest Kosovo Serb party Srpska Lista previously reacted, saying that the arrests prove that Kurti is continuing with „his plan to use violence and force“ to solve open political issues.
„He treats the Serbs in Kosovo as hostages in the negotiation process, whom he can harass whenever he wants and thus sends a message to the European Union that they can’t do anything to him.“
The party, citing the allegations shared by Albanian language media outlets, warned that the police are reportedly searching for “two more men.“
They reminded that the new arrests and the incident in Gracanica from a few days ago arrived after Kurti’s refusal to actively participate in the dialogue and de-escalate the situation on the ground.
„We appeal to KFOR and EULEX to urgently prevent incursions by special forces and other provocations by Kurti’s regime, which threaten the peace and cause tensions.“
