The property of two Serb returnee families, Radoje and Milan Pumpalovic, in the village of Dubrava in the municipality of Istok were attacked on Monday, the head of the Kosovo Office, Petar Petkovic, announced today. The Kosovo Police of the Pec/Peja region confirmed for KoSSev that the case of an attack on two houses in this village was registered. The police, however, say that this case was recorded on May 8th.
Petar Petkovic stressed that the attack in Dubrava, as well as the recent stoning of the church of St. Petka in Vitina, are not isolated incidents, but a series of ethnically motivated attacks on Serbs, their property, and SOC churches in Kosovo.
Petkovic emphasized that such incidents should be stopped. He revealed that in the last month and a half, 11 religious sites and churches in Kosovo were broken into and attacked. He noted that the incidents usually occur during the major holidays, so that the Serb people in Kosovo, as Petkovic assessed, are „made to feel even more disturbed“.
The head of the Kosovo Office alleged that many people „are playing innocent“ and wondering why Serbs are not returning to Kosovo. According to him, Pristina has not provided conditions for the return of Serbs to Kosovo.
In his words, Pristina’s “policy of impunity” encourages “Albanian extremists to continue attacking Serbs, their houses and temples”: “Albanian extremism directed against Serbs is additionally fueled by the daily war-mongering policy coming from Pristina and speeches against Belgrade, the Serb people in Kosovo, dialogue and the formation of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities.“
Petkovic met with the head of the OSCE mission in Kosovo, Mike Davenport today. Petkovic informed Davenport about these incidents, the Kosovo Office announced.
The spokesman of the Kosovo Police for the region of Pec/Peja, Fadil Gashi, confirmed for KoSSev that the attack on two houses was registered in the village of Dubrava.
According to Gashi, however, the cases were recorded on May 8th. He confirmed that the police examined the scene.
“The glass on the door was damaged on one house, while three windows were damaged on the other house,“ Gashi said.
The prosecutor has also been notified of the case and the investigation is ongoing.
