The adviser to the outgoing Kosovo Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jetlir Zyberaj shared the front page of the Belgrade-based tabloid Kurir on his Facebook profile today, claiming that this newspaper is reporting about something the officials from this ministry had „been saying for a long time“, that is, that „Serbian officials are using worldwide arms sales against Kosovo.“ Kurir’s article in question, however, makes no mention of Kosovo.
„Today, the Serbian Kurir wrote about something we have been saying for a long time – Serbian officials are using worldwide arms sales against Kosovo, thus violating international sanctions and laws. By selling weapons, Serbia is bribing countries to give counterfeit diplomatic notes. They go so far as to sell weapons and kill innocent civilians with Serbian weapons around the world, simply to satisfy themselves with a political war against Kosovo, false diplomatic notes and propaganda. Vujic is Dacic’s man, and he established the suitcase diplomacy along with Cizel,“ Zyberaj wrote on Facebook.
On the other hand, the Serbian tabloid Kurir wrote today about alleged ties between the former Serbian diplomacy chief, now one of the opposition leaders in Serbia, Vuk Jeremic and Slobodan Tesic, „who is considered to be the biggest Serbian arms dealer“, as well as the alleged appointment of one of the heads of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – by Tesic’s intervention.
Kurir’s text does not mention Kosovo or the withdrawal of recognition.
Zyberaj’s idea that Serbia is selling weapons in exchange for the purchase of the withdrawal of Kosovo’s recognition has been popular among Kosovo officials for a while now. Kosovo Foreign Minister, Behgjet Pacolli himself expressed the same opinion last January.
„Our only weapon is the truth we spread around the world,“ Pacolli’s Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic said at the time.
Similar allegations also gained popularity last November, before Kosovo decided to impose a tax increase on goods from Serbia, when Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister, Enver Hoxhaj spoke of „Serbia’s aggressive diplomacy“.
For the past few weeks, the topic of alleged influence trading and financial damage to the Serbian industry due to the alleged involvement of the Serbian Minister of Interior’s father, Branko Stefanovic, in buying arms from „Krusik“ at significantly reduced prices, came into the national spotlight. These allegations were first made by the famous whistleblower, Aleksandar Obradovic, a “Krusik” employee.
Jetlir Zyberaj recently released the record of the SPS party’s chief executive board session from February 1999, arguing that this document shows, among many other things plans against Kosovo Albanians, attempts to conceal the massacre and mass expulsions of Kosovo citizens. KoSSev’s journalists, however, could not find anything in the published document which might be interpreted as an intention to cover up massacres or any other crimes.
