Kosovo Police reported today the discovery of two Serbian-made rocket-propelled grenade launchers (commonly known as „zolja“) in an abandoned residential building in North Mitrovica.
According to the police statement, the discovery was made around 2:00 p.m. after authorities received a tip-off through „operational channels“ suggesting that firearms could be found in a deserted housing complex on Anke Spajić Street, in the Brđani/Kroi i Vitakut neighborhood.
Specialized explosive ordnance units were deployed to the scene, where the two rocket launchers were located and confiscated. An investigation has since been launched, and the local prosecutor has initiated proceedings on charges related to the „unauthorized ownership, control, or possession of weapons.“
As news of the weapons seizure broke, acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, was holding a press conference in Pristina, where he again criticized Serbia, labeling it a „destabilizing force in the region“ and referring to recent arrests and historical grievances dating back to the Milošević era.
Shortly after the police statement, Kosovo’s acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, also weighed in. In a social media post, he confirmed the weapons’ origin and suggested their presence reflects allegedly a long-standing pattern of arms trafficking and political interference from Serbia.
„We have all witnessed the scale and frequency of weapons seizures over the past four years,“ Sveçla stated, accusing Belgrade of having „systematically organized, supplied, and encouraged terrorist groups and criminal gangs“ in Northern Kosovo.
„Serbia has never distanced itself from such actions,“ he continued, claiming the objective was to undermine Kosovo’s territorial integrity and constitutional order.
Despite the inflammatory rhetoric, Minister Sveçla emphasized Kosovo’s ongoing efforts to re-establish control and stability in the north. “Day by day, we are restoring order to this part of our territory — along with that, we are bringing investment and development for all citizens, regardless of ethnicity,” he wrote.
