The Kosovo Police reacted today to Sunday shooting at Gracanica Lake in the village of Mramor. The KP confirmed that two men shot at a police officer, after which he returned fire.

Previously, the Kosovo media reported about the shooting incident at Gracanica Lake on May 1st. Referring to confirmation from the Kosovo Police Inspectorate, they wrote that a member of the Kosovo Police wounded two people.

A day later, that is, on Monday, new information appeared from the Serbian side, as well as the testimony of Marko Petkovic, who shared his account of the event.

Petkovic and a dozen of other young Serbian men and women celebrated Labor Day – May 1st at Gracanica Lake.

„They stopped a few meters away from us. A friend who was with us, a member of the Gorani community, who works in the police and speaks Albanian, approached them and asked them to leave the site because the situation was unpleasant. They moved from that spot and stopped not far from where our cars were parked and one of them opened fire at us. One of my friends cried out that we should get down to the ground and the roof of the car protected us from bullets. Our policeman friend returned fire when the attackers fled towards the village of Mramor,“ Petkovic told RTS and Kosovo online yesterday.

As RTS reported yesterday, the attackers fired shots at the group while riding on a motorcycle.

Similar allegations were presented by a claimed-to-be witness who contacted KoSSev. While insisting on remaining anonymous, this purported witness claimed that a group of young Serb men and women were attacked on ethnic grounds „simply because they listened to Serbian music.“ The same individual also stated the attackers had no way of knowing that a KP member was part of this group as he was wearing civilian clothes.

Kosovo police confirmed today that the police officer responded to the attack by opening fire.

In their statement, the police wrote that they received a report that two men from Kosovo shot at a police officer in the village of Mramor on May 1st at 3:15 p.m.

„The policeman also responded by opening fire, as a result of which two suspects were injured. They received medical care,“ the KP stated.

They specified that they found 15 shell casings on the site, as well as that they found a motorcycle and a Zoraki gun without bullets on the suspects.

The investigation is ongoing.
