The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, brought together Kosovo’s religious leaders on the International Human Rights Day to sign a Joint Declaration on Gender-Based Violence and Human Dignity, marking the conclusion of the global “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, the embassy announced.
Representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Islamic Community, the Catholic Church, the Jewish Community, and the Protestant Evangelical Church signed the declaration — described by the UK Embassy as a “historic moment” of united action against gender-based violence.
Metropolitan Teodosije signed on behalf of the Serbian Orthodox Church; Mufti Naim Tërnava for the Islamic Community; Bishop Dodë Gjergji for the Catholic Church; Votim Demiri for the Jewish Community; and Pastor Driton Krasniqi for the Protestant Evangelical Church.
Ambassador Hargreaves stated that the United Kingdom is a global champion in combating gender-based violence, stressing that “equality and dignity are the foundations of peace and prosperity.”
He also underlined that the UK supports initiatives in Kosovo aimed at strengthening social cohesion and stability, and works closely with institutions and civil society to prevent violence.
Throughout the campaign, the British Embassy deepened its cooperation with Kosovo’s religious leaders, recognizing their “unique and powerful role in shaping values and guiding communities.”
By signing the declaration, the embassy said, religious communities sent a clear message that violence has no place in society.
