The Poštanska Štedionica bank set up four temporary branches near the Jarinje, Brnjak, Konculj, and Merdare crossings over the weekend where Kosovo Serbs can withdraw their money in dinars.
The newly established branches start operating today. They will be open every working day, and on Saturdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., announced the Kosovo Office.
In the new bank branches, residents will be able to carry out all banking activities. Each branch is also equipped with an ATM.
Moreover, the bank has set up two mobile branches on wheels at these locations.
These temporary branches have been installed in the closest possible locations to the crossings with Kosovo.
The Kosovo Office underlined that this was the “only feasible” solution under the current circumstances.
They added that the branches of Poštanska Štedionica bank located in the north of Kosovo remain active.
At the same time, they point out that Belgrade is „constantly looking for a sustainable solution“ regarding the functioning of payments from Serbia on the territory of Kosovo.
„Serbs who are affected by Kurti’s anti-Serb measures, will not have to travel to the branches in Raska, Novi Pazar, Kursumlija, Vranje… to withdraw their incomes, but will be able to do that near the administrative crossings,“ the Office stated.
More than a month has passed since the new CBK regulation entered into force, which essentially banned the Serbian dinar in Kosovo and prohibited the continuation of the import of money through the crossing intended the payout of salaries, pensions, and other benefits from Serbia proper.
For more than a month now, residents have been able to withdraw cash in the branches of Poštanka Štedionica, the only bank in Kosovo that operates with dinars, in a limited daily amount – a maximum of 10,000 per day.
This can only be done in the bank itself because ATMs are not operational. This is precisely why younger generations travel to Raska and other towns in Serbia proper to withdraw their money, while the elderly, primarily pensioners, prefer to stand in long lines in front of the Poštanska Štedionica Bank.
