A UEFA Nations League match between Kosovo and Cyprus was briefly interrupted tonight in Larnaca over a ‘Kosovo is Serbia’ banner that appeared in the stands, sparking controversy and halting play for several minutes.
The game was well underway when Kosovo players reportedly noticed banners in the home crowd, one of which read „Kosovo is Serbia“ in English.
According to reports from Pristina-based outlet Koha, the players from Kosovo alerted the referee to the banners, prompting an official pause in the match.
The interruption lasted several minutes as authorities sought to address the situation.
Some reports on social media platform „X“ even claimed that local police intervened.
Kosovar media were quick to condemn the incident, describing the display of the banners as a „serious provocation“ amid an otherwise routine football match.
Despite the brief disruption, Kosovo went on to win the match 4-0.
