„I wish the people of Serbia a peaceful and prosperous national day and year ahead,“ US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on the occasion of the Serbian Statehood Day.

Serbia is celebrating its Statehood Day today.

On this occasion, congratulations have arrived from the US in the previous days, from President Joseph Biden himself, as well as from the special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar. In a congratulatory message published by the State Department, Blinken says that the United States values the strategic partnership with Serbia.

„We look forward to strengthening our bilateral ties and fostering a more stable, secure, and prosperous future for the Serbian and American people. We are committed to supporting your goal of European Union membership and we look forward to working with Serbia’s new government and our European partners to assist Serbia in meeting EU accession criteria“.

At the same time, he emphasized that the USA „encourages“ Serbia to implement its obligations and continue through the dialogue led by the EU, in order to achieve a „comprehensive agreement on normalization with Kosovo“.

The United States is looking forward to further economic, energy security and defense cooperation with Serbia, he said in a statement, with another message concerning the war in Ukraine.

„We deeply appreciate your support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as they continue to resist Russia’s war of aggression.“

„Serbia’s participation in UN and EU peacekeeping missions and deployment alongside U.S. forces in the Multinational Forces and Observers mission in the Sinai are examples of the invaluable role Serbia plays in strengthening peace and security regionally and globally.“

Finally, Blinken congratulated Serbia on its successful bid to host EXPO 27 in Belgrade.

Blinken arrived in Europe last night. He is currently staying in Tirana, Albania, where he met with the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama.
