Kosovo Police have confirmed that a new case of alleged sexual harassment was reported in North Mitrovica yesterday. According to KoSSev sources, the report was filed around 3:00 p.m.
Head of Operations for the Kosovo Police in the North region, Petrit Fejza, confirmed the case but did not disclose details regarding the nature of the incident. He stated that both the female complainant and the male suspect were interviewed by police.
“We took her statement and located the man who was suspected. The case has been officially opened as ‘sexual harassment’ and will now be forwarded to the prosecutor,” Fejza told KoSSev.
The case is currently under police investigation.
This report comes amid heightened public and international attention over claims of women in the North being subjected to sexual harassment, allegedly by individuals coming from the southern part of Kosovo. The issue has garnered increasing concern from diplomatic missions and international organizations operating in Pristina and the region.
In response, Kosovo Police launched a new operational plan earlier this month. The plan includes the deployment of additional patrols equipped with body cameras, aiming to strengthen public safety and accountability.
Meanwhile, a group of citizens from the North has announced the creation of a “Neighborhood Watch” initiative to patrol the streets of North Mitrovica in light of the rising number of harassment reports.
