KSF member A.K., a suspect in the case of the wounding of two young men S.S. (11) and M.S. (21) in the village of Gotovusa on January 6th of this year, has been released at his own recognizance. This decision was made by the Basic Court in Urosevac back in May, nonetheless, the defense counsel of the injured young men, at their initiative, learned about it only this week.
These two young men were shot on Orthodox Christmas Day this year from a passing car. The suspect in this attack was arrested on the same day – a thirty-three-year-old man, A.K., from Kosovo, and a member of the KSF, who was then remanded to custody.
The incident caused a strong reaction from Belgrade, the international community, and Pristina, which condemned the shooting of the young men.
Although initially charged with the crimes of „attempted aggravated murder“, „causing general danger“ and „use of weapons“, the first criminal offense was excluded in the official indictment.
At the first hearing that was held, on March 16 of this year, A.K. pleaded not guilty. At the time, the measure of custody, in which he had been since January, was changed to house arrest for two months.
Even though A.K. was released at his own recognizance in May, the public learned about it only six months later.
„The hearing of March 16 presented our last participation as representatives of the injured parties in that process. We did not receive anything in writing, we did not participate in that written communication between the Prosecutor’s Office, the Court, and the defendant’s attorney regarding detention. We haven’t received anything officially,“ Miloš Delević, a lawyer of one of the wounded young Serbs, told KoSSev.
In pursuit of information from the Court, Delević and his colleague then received confirmation that A.K. was released on his own recognizance in May.
„A lot of time has passed. My colleague and I went to learn more about it, and we were told in the Court that he was released on his own recognizance in May.“
Delević specified that they also received information that a trial in this case would soon be scheduled.
Although describing the decisions of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court regarding the release of A.K. as „preposterous“, this lawyer says that he is even more concerned about the change in the qualification of the criminal offense, that is, the fact that the initial criminal offense „attempted aggravated murder“ is not part of the indictment.
„We, as defenders of the injured parties, request that the qualification be attempted aggravated murder,“ Delević stressed.
He added that they are now waiting for the Court’s invitation to partake in the proceedings.
Petković: It is evident that no one will be held responsible for the spilled blood of Serb children
The head of the Kosovo Office, Petar Petković, condemned this decision of the Basic Court in Urosevac today, while also sharing one new piece of information – that Pristina is considering the revocation of the indictment against A.K.
“It is evident that no one will be held responsible for the spilled blood of Serb children.”
„Do the lives of Serbian children in Kosovo hold no value?“ – he asked the international community, including organizations in Kosovo, as well as the European facilitator in the dialogue process, Miroslav Lajčak.
According to Petković, the decision to release A.K. will only encourage „extremists to do the same“.
„With the foolish decision of the so-called court in Urosevac, Kurti’s policy of hunting Serbs was made official and it was once again publicized that the Serbs in Kosovo cannot hope for any justice. What’s next, to award the extremist Kurti or erect a monument in his honor?“ Petković added in his reaction on X.
