The donations – in the form of diapers, wipes, toys, etc. – which the members of the SNS Union of Women from Vracar sent to new mothers in the North Mitrovica Hospital Centre were not allowed to pass through the Jarinje administrative crossing, the Serbian national media claimed today. The Kosovo Customs Service provided an incomprehensible and vague explanation for this decision – TV Most and several Belgrade-based television states reported. The Kosovo Police, however, stated tonight that they were not allowed to enter Kosovo as some 28 mainly women on an irregular bus line were assessed as „a threat to order and security“.
Kosovo police reported as one of the main purposes of their attempted arrival was to attend a protest. No humanitarian aid was reported as the reason of the attempted visit.
On the other hand, a deputy of the Serbian Progressive Party in the Belgrade Assembly, Draginja Volk told the media that this was a „scandalous decision“:
„We do not know if these stuffed toys are to be blamed? Are mothers and children to be blamed for this kind of torture? They talked to us in Albanian. We did not understand them. The explanation reads that this is a threat to public policy, internal security and public health, and international relations. I do not know on what basis is this humanitarian aid a threat to public security?“
TV Most also reported that a „march of women“ will be held tomorrow in North Mitrovica at noon in front of the EU building.
The Government of Kosovo introduced a 10% tax increase on imports of products from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 6th, and then increased the import tax to 100% on November 21st. Several protests were held in North Mitrovica since Friday. Srpska Lista announced that its MPs entered the Kosovo Assembly today, where they will stay until they meet with the European Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, who will arrive to Pristina from Belgrade tomorrow. Srpska Lista also confirmed that, for the time being, they do not have an officially scheduled meeting with Hahn.
