Following the introduction of a 100% tax on all products from Serbia, it appears that the security situation in Kosovo may worse, Kosovo media reported last night.

„The security situation in the north of Kosovo may be out of control within 24 hours“ – sources of Kosovo portal Veriu.info warned.

„Some criminal and business circles, supported by the Serbian government, are expected to set up barricades in the North within 24 hours as a sign of dissatisfaction with the 100% customs duty on Serbian products introduced by Kosovo on Wednesday,“ the Veriu.info unnamed source said.

The same portal wrote that this situation has alarmed the Kosovo Police and that special units are ready to intervene – if it proves to be necessary.

On the other side, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said at an urgent press conference held late last night that the Serbian government will not impose counter measures.

„We will not stop their trucks, we will not stop their passenger vehicles, and we will not stop the circulation of goods to Kosovo and Metohija, at least not in the coming period. We want to show the difference between responsible and serious behavior on the one hand, and irresponsible behavior on the other,“ Vucic stated.

Market inspection started removing products with the inscription „Kosovo and Metohija“, „Kosovo UNMIK“ or „Kosovo Resolution 1244“ containing these inscriptions from stores throughout Kosovo.

The Kosovo government adopted a decision yesterday, with a majority of votes, to increase the tax on imported goods from Serbia, which had already been increased by 10% earlier this week, to 100%. This measure was adopted just a day after Kosovo failed to enter INTERPOL for the fourth time.
