UNGDS Vehicle Auction: United Nations Selling a Toyota Camry Hybrid in Kosovo
What does it look like when the United Nations sells vehicles that are no longer needed by its organizations, and where do those vehicles end up?
Behind this process is a dedicated system, UN Global Disposal Services (UNGDS), which helps United Nations organizations and humanitarian partners sell vehicles, equipment, and other assets they no longer need in a transparent and efficient manner.
Of particular interest to buyers is that an increasing share of these sales is available online, allowing interested parties to register, review the offered vehicles, and participate in auctions through the UNGDS platform.

What is UN Global Disposal Services (UNGDS)?
The United Nations system manages a large amount of assets worldwide, including a fleet of approximately 30,000 vehicles.
When certain vehicles and other assets are no longer needed by an organization or a specific operation, they must be sold in a transparent manner, with appropriate documentation and an effort to achieve the best possible return on their residual value.
This is where UN Global Disposal Services comes in.
UNGDS organizes the sale of vehicles, equipment, and other assets for organizations within the UN system and humanitarian partners. Depending on the market and the type of asset, sales are conducted through public auctions, online bidding, sealed bids, and other sales models.

Since 2014, UNGDS has organized more than 1,300 sales events, sold more than 17,500 vehicles, and generated over USD 330 million in returns for organizations using its services.
Today, UNGDS provides services to more than 28 United Nations organizations and 15 non-governmental organizations and is recognized within the UN system as a High-Impact Common Service.

For potential buyers, the most important part of the story is the UNGDS online platform.

As a result, auctions that were once primarily local events are now accessible to a much wider audience.
