A private entrepreneur from North Mitrovica, Ivan Miletić, discovered this morning that the rear windshield of his car had been shattered overnight.
The vehicle was parked in the city center, near his residential building, in a well-lit area covered by video surveillance. Neighbors told him they heard a loud noise between 3 and 4 a.m., which he believes may have been the moment the damage occurred.
Miletić reported the incident to the police, who carried out an on-site inspection and told him they would inform him once the investigation is completed.
“I haven’t endangered anyone, I didn’t take anyone’s parking spot or block anyone. I had no argument, no conflict that would make someone intentionally break the glass,” Miletić told KoSSev.
He suspects the act was intentional, saying there are visible traces of a stone, but emphasizes that he does not suspect any particular individual or group.
Miletić has been active for years on social media, where he expresses his political views. He recently became the official representative of the newly formed civic initiative “Sever za sve.” At the local elections in October, he won the highest number of individual votes, although he is not listed as an assembly member.
“I would like to believe this is not about politics. It is possible, but I simply cannot know. The investigation will show. I would prefer it to have happened for some other, unknown reason and not be political. If it were political – that would be truly devastating for our town and for those in power, if this were a form of retaliation against people who think differently,” he said.
He stressed that there were no clashes or revenge among Serbian parties during or after the campaign.
Miletić does not believe the incident was ethnically motivated and says he puts his hopes in the police investigation. He insists he will demand to know its outcome.
“Everything I do, I do persistently and transparently. The police said they will do everything they can. I hope they will find the perpetrator. If they want to – they will find him,” he added.
He describes such incidents as “devastating for society.”
“I am known in this town as someone who has never had problems with anyone. I have never received political threats. Maybe this is some form of pressure regarding future steps, but I’m not sure,” he said.
Although he won the most votes at the last election, Miletić is not currently on the list of local assembly members, but does not rule out that this could change.
He says he is not afraid, but feels uneasy, especially because of his family.
“Even if I am not afraid for a moment, I do feel discomfort, especially when it comes to my family. The hardest moment was when my son called me and said, ‘Dad, someone broke our glass,’ and I told him something probably fell from the building,” he recalled.
“I am doing the right thing, and a man who does the right thing fears nothing but the Lord,” he concluded.
