Seven people were reportedly arrested this morning in police raids in the northern Kosovo municipalities of Zubin Potok and Zvecan, the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija (KiM Office) said in a statement.
From the early morning hours, searches were conducted at nine locations – two in Zvecan and seven in Zubin Potok – by investigators from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Crimes, acting on a court order requested by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the morning statement issued by Kosovo’s law enforcement authorities, the operation is being carried out in connection with suspected criminal offenses including “endangering United Nations personnel or associated staff, aggravated murder, and assault on an official during the performance of official duties.”
KoSSev has repeatedly reached out to the Kosovo Police for the Pristina region for comment but has not received a response. The Kosovo Police for the North confirmed only that it is providing logistical assistance to the units from Pristina, without revealing further details.
While the Kosovo authorities have not yet publicly commented on the operation and unverified reports about those arrested continue to circulate on social media, Belgrade’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija issued a strong reaction.
KiM Office: “Seven of our compatriots arrested”
“In continuation of the brutal physical and legal repression against the Serbian people, Albin Kurti this morning ordered the arrest of Serbs in Zubin Potok and Zvecan, during which seven of our compatriots were detained,” the Office for KiM said.
They claim the operation began around 6 a.m. and that heavily armed special police units “broke into” homes “to intimidate and spread fear among Serbian families who have lived in these areas for decades.”
According to the statement, the operation lasted several hours and involved “breaking down doors of Serbian houses, conducting searches, and carrying out arbitrary arrests.”
The Office described the raids as “Albin Kurti’s retaliation” against Serbs in the North following the recent local elections held on October 12, alleging that “the nervousness of Pristina after its electoral defeat is now being compensated at the expense of the Serbian people.”
They said legal assistance would be provided to the detained individuals and that international representatives will be informed about the arrests.
