Kosovo Police have initiated a forced deportation procedure against Nikola Vujović, a Serbian national from Zubin Potok, following the revocation of his Kosovo citizenship, the Directorate for Migration and Foreigners confirmed today.
Until the process is completed, Vujović is being held at the Center for Foreigners, according to a police statement shared with the media.
The statement describes Vujović as a “dual citizen” – of Serbia and, until recently, of Kosovo – and also claims he is “a member of Serbian police intelligence structures.”
“Based on the decision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding the loss of citizenship by revocation, a procedure for forced removal from the territory of the Republic of Kosovo has been initiated against the person N.V.,” it reads.
It further states that the procedure is being carried out in accordance with Kosovo’s legislation governing such matters, and that a formal deportation order has been issued.
“Until the execution of this measure, the individual in question has been placed under temporary detention at the Center for Foreigners,” the statement adds.
The police reiterated that they will “continue to perform their constitutional and legal duties and implement the decisions of the state institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.”
Earlier today, Kosovo’s acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, publicly announced that he had issued the decision to revoke Nikola Vujović’s Kosovo citizenship on the grounds of “threatening national security as a member of Serbia’s police forces.”
In response, Serbia’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija described the move as an “unprecedented and escalatory act,” alleging that it was intended to “destabilize the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and intimidate the Serb population.”
Vujović is one of four Serbian nationals detained over the past two days at the administrative border crossings of Brnjak, Jarinje, and Končul. Among them are three active members of Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and one retired police officer.
N.V. (26), a member of the MUP, and M.S. (53), a retired police officer, were detained yesterday at Brnjak. Today, M.M. (28), also a member of the MUP, was apprehended at Jarinje, while A.M. (36), another MUP officer, was detained at Končul.
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija confirmed that all four are in custody and will be provided with free legal assistance. The case has also been reported to international representatives, including EU dialogue facilitator Peter Sørensen. The Office described the arrests as “politically motivated and entirely unfounded.”
This series of arrests of Serbian police officers from Kosovo followed the detention of Arbnor Spahiu, a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army and Kosovo’s special police, on June 7 in Serbia. Spahiu is suspected of a serious murder in the ‘Banjska’ case. His arrest sparked strong reactions from Pristina, and the current situation is interpreted as possible retaliation or pressure for his release.
Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, acting Prime Minister, and President have all condemned the arrest, calling it politically motivated. They stated that Kosovo institutions are “doing everything within their power to ensure the release of Arbnor S.,” including diplomatic efforts and legal support.
