Students from the University of Pristina, temporarily based in North Mitrovica, will organize another „16 Minutes of Silence“ event tomorrow, April 29, to honor the victims of the Novi Sad tragedy.
The gathering will take place at its original location — in front of the Faculty of Philosophy in North Mitrovica — where the first such event was organized. It is scheduled for 11:52 a.m., the exact time when the roof of the Novi Sad Railway Station collapsed, claiming 16 lives.
This will mark the fourteenth gathering in North Mitrovica to pay tribute to the victims and show support for students who have been maintaining blockades at nearly all public universities across central Serbia for several months.
The previous event was held on April 15, with students from the University of Belgrade also joining their peers in solidarity.
The first „16 Minutes of Silence“ gathering in North Mitrovica took place on January 24, in front of the Faculty of Philosophy, initiated by local resident Srđan Đorđević.
Since then, students have organized nearly weekly gatherings, initially outside the faculty building and later at the city square. Some events have also seen professors joining to support the students.
Although the University of Pristina itself is not under blockade, students have consistently demonstrated solidarity with their peers in central Serbia through these silent vigils and by participating in major protests in Kragujevac, Niš, Novi Pazar, and Belgrade.
In December, four professors publicly voiced their support for the student movement, followed by another seven who launched an online petition. The petition was signed by 360 professors, assistants, and students from the University of Pristina.
