Authorities in North Mitrovica have closed and sealed the offices of the Dunav Insurance branch over allegations of operating without proper licenses. The operation, conducted by Kosovo Police inspectors in cooperation with officials from the Central Bank of Kosovo (CBK), began at around noon today and resulted in the suspension of the branch’s activities.
Investigation Underway
The closure follows suspicions that Dunav Insurance was offering services without the required authorization. Police confirmed that prosecutors have initiated a case under the charge of „abuse of economic activity.“
During the operation, employees were asked to vacate the premises before inspectors sealed the building.
Various documents were removed from the office and packed into paper bags, likely for further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Deputy Commander of Kosovo Police for the North Region, Veton Elshani, stated, „Police are assisting CBK officials, who are here due to suspicions of unlicensed operations by this insurance company.“
He confirmed that no arrests were made during the operation but noted that the office would remain closed until further notice, depending on the prosecutor’s decision.
Official Notice and Warning
An official notice affixed to the office door declared a „temporary suspension of activities“ and warned that unauthorized removal of the official seal constitutes a criminal offense.
Business owners have been instructed to contact the central market inspectorate in Pristina for further steps.
Public Protest by Local Leader
During the closure, Aleksandar Arsenijević, leader of the Serbian Democracy political group, staged a small protest in front of the sealed premises, blowing a whistle to draw attention to the event.
Related Actions in North Mitrovica
This action against Dunav Insurance is the second notable event in North Mitrovica today. Earlier in the day, police inspectors also sealed a building used by Serbia’s Tax Administration.
