Reports of alleged border crossings by „heavily armed“ members of the Kosovo Police have been categorically denied by Kosovo authorities, who labeled Serbia’s claims as misinformation intended to instill fear and tarnish the police’s reputation.
The statement comes in response to allegations made by Serbia’s Ministry of Defense earlier in the day.
Kosovo Denies Accusations
Kosovo Police, in a statement to KoSSev, dismissed the claims as „false and unfounded.“
They stressed their commitment to transparency and the provision of accurate information to the media and the public whenever necessary.
“These statements are a deliberate attempt to create insecurity among the local population and undermine the credibility of Kosovo Police,” the statement read.
Serbia’s Allegations
The Serbian Ministry of Defense accused Kosovo Police of crossing the administrative line near the village of Ćirkoviće in northern Kosovo, describing the incident as a „deliberate and planned provocation“ by the Kosovo government under Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
The ministry urged NATO’s KFOR mission to intervene, calling the alleged actions „dangerous provocations“ that threaten regional stability.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić echoed these accusations, claiming that the U.S. was aware of Kurti’s supposed plan.
“Kurti intended for these individuals to be neutralized to justify bringing NATO into a conflict with Serbia,” Vučić alleged, adding that Serbia would respond decisively if similar incidents occur.
Awaiting Responses
Inquiries sent by KoSSev to Kosovo’s Ministry of Interior, and KFOR have yet to receive comprehensive responses.
In response to the request to comment on Belgrade’s accusations against Kurti, the spokesperson of the Kosovo government, Perparim Kryeziu, referred us to a statement from the Kosovo Police, which has since been published.
KFOR has stated it will reply once it verifies the details.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Pristina has been contacted regarding Vučić’s claims.
Historical Context
This incident echoes a similar controversy from June 2023, when Serbia accused Kosovo Police of entering central Serbia.
That event led to the arrest of three Kosovo officers, whom Pristina claimed had been abducted on Kosovo territory.
In retaliation, Kosovo imposed a ban on Serbian imports, a measure still in effect but recently modified to allow limited trade through the Merdare crossing under strict controls.
