Municipal SUV Recovered in Mitrovica: Alleged Ties to Ex-Mayor Goran Rakić

Municipal officials in North Mitrovica, in coordination with the police, have recovered a white Nissan SUV from the second floor of the „Sutjeska“ public garage. The vehicle, registered with official plates from the Mitrovica region, had been missing for over a year, according to police reports.

The recovery occurred after routine inspections carried out by municipal inspectors and Kosovo Police officers.

Deputy Commander of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, confirmed that the vehicle was identified by matching its chassis number to a municipal vehicle reported missing a year ago.

„When we identified the vehicle, we traced the keys to an individual from North Mitrovica, N.E., who surrendered them today,“ Elshani stated to local outlet KoSSev.

Alleged Ties to Former Mayor Goran Rakić

Sources indicate that the vehicle had previously been assigned to Goran Rakić, a former mayor of North Mitrovica and currently a Serbian MP. Rakić has held multiple positions within Kosovo’s administrative structures. N.E., who turned over the keys, is said to have been Rakić’s official driver.

Municipal Chief of Staff, Visar Syla, present during the vehicle’s retrieval, confirmed that it belonged to the municipality and had been assigned to Rakić. However, Syla declined to provide further details.

When contacted for comment, Rakić initially answered but the call disconnected after the reporter introduced themselves. Follow-up calls and written inquiries went unanswered by the time of publication.

N.E., reached for comment, refused to elaborate on the situation. While confirming he had driven the vehicle in the past, he stated, „I was just a regular driver“ and directed further questions to the Kosovo Police.

Earlier this month, another municipal vehicle was also recovered. According to information obtained by the KoSSev portal, the vehicle had reportedly been assigned to S.L. from North Mitrovica during her tenure with a non-governmental organization.
