Members of the Kosovo Police, accompanied by municipal officials, seized a vehicle tonight parked in a public garage in North Mitrovica. According to the Kosovo Police (KP), the vehicle in question was an official car belonging to the Municipality of North Mitrovica. While unconfirmed reports from the KoSSev portal suggest that the vehicle was allegedly in the possession of S. L., a resident of Mitrovica, who was assigned the vehicle while working with a non-governmental organization (NGO) at the time.
The vehicle, a Nissan SUV that police had been searching for, was found just a few dozen meters away from the local police station, parked on the second floor of a public garage. The garage is situated behind a NIS petrol station that was shut down earlier this summer.
„We located the vehicle after receiving information and seized it,“ confirmed Veton Elshani, Deputy Commander of the KP in the Northern Region, in a statement to KoSSev.
Elshani also confirmed that the vehicle was indeed the property of the Municipality of North Mitrovica. However, when pressed for more details about who had been using the vehicle, when it was taken, and whether its return had been formally requested, Elshani offered no further information.
He only stated briefly that the vehicle „had not been returned to the municipality.“
Sources suggest that the vehicle had been assigned to S. L. during her engagement in the NGO sector. When approached for comment, S. L. declined to provide any further details, stating, „I do not wish to comment at this time.“
A KoSSev journalist was present on-site during the operation. At the public garage, several municipal officials and plainclothes police officers were seen. One officer was holding the vehicle’s license plates as the seizure unfolded.
The vehicle was eventually driven out of the garage, escorted by two other cars. One of the accompanying vehicles was carrying the chief of staff for the Mayor of North Mitrovica, Visar Syla.
