The North Mitrovica Municipal Assembly adopted the request of the representative of the Turkish community from this municipality to recognize the Turkish language as traditional during today’s session.
The request was signed by residents from the Turkish minority community in North Mitrovica, and forwarded to the municipality on March 14 by the representative of the Turkish community in the Assembly of Kosovo, Enis Karvan.
Karvan, as well as some citizens from this community, attended the session of this MA today.
Before the adoption, the chairman of the MA Nedžad Ugljanin read the request, which was then adopted, with one vote against and one abstention.
Some councilors criticized the chairman for failing to give them insight into this request – when it was submitted and what it contained.
Kervan thanked the local authorities for accepting the request from his community in North Mitrovica.
He said that he knows that this municipality has always been multi-ethnic and that this has been proven once again.
„This proves that the municipality is a multi-ethnic municipality and that it is always open to all communities. I thank everyone,“ said Kervan.
The exact number of members of the Turkish community in the municipality of North Mitrovica cannot be determined, Nedžad Ugljanin told KoSSev, given that the last population census in Kosovo did not include the citizens of North Mitrovica.
He added that it is estimated that between 30 and 40 families from the Turkish community live in North Mitrovica.
A request for financial support for a girl from North Mitrovica was also adopted
Another request, submitted a few months ago, was unanimously adopted today at the session, for support or financial aid to the seven-year-old girl Lena from North Mitrovica, who suffers from attention and concentration problems due to epileptic attacks for which she receives treatment in Novi Sad.
The municipality will allocate 2,000 euros for the girl – half will be given by the mayor’s office, and the other half by the municipal assembly.
Two requests for the allocation of land were not supported
Requests submitted this month to the municipality of North Mitrovica, in connection with the use of the public area located in Oslobođenja Street, i.e. the parking lot behind the MTS building, as well as the use of land in the Mikronaselje settlement, were not accepted by the councilors in this MA.
A citizen wanted to build a restaurant behind the MTS building, and a plot of land in Mikronaselje was sought for the needs of the Auto-moto company.
Most councilors rejected these two requests, while some abstained from voting.
