The international community promised us that if we accept the Ohrid annex – they would ensure Srpska Lista’s participation in elections. We also extended the deadline for party registration, but it was all in vain. I believed that Aleksandar Jablanovic would win in Leposavic, but he dropped out of the race two days before (his) assured victory. I heard that he got a million euros and two apartments in Belgrade. It may not be true, but anyhow, it was either too much pressure or too good of an offer, Albin Kurti said in Serbian in a video message addressed to Kosovo Serbs.
The PM alleged that Jablanovic and Srpska Lista said all kinds of things about Kosovo and himself, emphasizing that he was still willing to accept them as future mayors. Kurti, however, noted that he had „neither the power nor the will“ to force them to run for office.
„Now, Lulzim Hetemi is the mayor, until a new one is elected,“ said the Kosovo Prime Minister.
He emphasized that new extraordinary elections are thus needed, but with an open and free pre-election campaign in the northern municipalities.
Reiterating that without a democratic campaign, there can be no fair and democratic elections, he pointed out that this necessitates the rule of law, which, he repeated, is needed in order to gradually reduce the number of police officers stationed in municipal buildings.
„An environment where there is no intimidation and no criminals.“
He accused the authorities in Belgrade of „looking for a time machine“, claiming that they sometimes want to return to the period before December 2001 – when he was released from a Serbian prison.
„Sometimes they want to go back to the time before June 1999 when we were liberated, sometimes before February 2008 when we declared independence, sometime before February of this year when the President of Serbia Vucic accepted the new agreement, and, like you yourself heard, sometimes they want to go back with a time machine before December 2001, when I got out of a Serbian prison.“
He specifically accused the Serbian president of „apparently having fond memories of the war, when he served as Milosevic’s former minister“, adding that he himself does not share such sentiment as he „is not in favor of war“.
„I am not in favor of war. I am against war. I am a social democrat. I suffered during the war, I was a prisoner of war for more than two and a half years.“
He also listed all the ways the Kosovo government has reportedly helped the Kosovo Serbian community.
