A man arrested this morning in Pristina on suspicion of espionage has been identified as political analyst Fatmir Sheholli, Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla announced.
Kosovo’s prosecution office earlier confirmed the arrest of a person with the initials F. Sh., stating that he was detained on espionage charges.
Without providing further details, prosecutors said that police are currently searching the suspect’s home to seize material evidence.
Almost simultaneously, Minister Sveçla took to social media to confirm the identity of the detainee, accusing Sheholli of collaboration with Serbia.
“The time of Serbia’s spies in Kosovo is over,” Sveçla declared, adding that anyone working “for Serbia and against Kosovo will be uncompromisingly and relentlessly prosecuted.“
He also claimed that Sheholli and others like him had been given “unlimited media space” in Kosovo while “cooperating with actors who continuously work to undermine our Republic and its progress.”
