Following the recent damage to KoSSev director Nevenka Medić’s vehicle, Democratic Party MP Srđan Milivojević strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an attack targeting both her and the portal’s commitment to professional journalism.
Milivojević, in a statement issued after the incident, linked the incident to the portal’s reporting, which often covers sensitive and controversial issues in Kosovo. According to the MP, Medić and her colleagues are frequently in the crosshairs of those who find their „professional engagement“ unacceptable.
“Nevenka Medić and KoSSev are once again under attack from those who cannot tolerate their professional dedication, which for years has been brave, impartial, timely, and truthful,” said Milivojević. He praised Medić and her colleagues’ commitment to addressing difficult and often dangerous topics, emphasizing the importance of KoSSev’s work in shedding light on the harsh realities in the region.
A Recognizable Pattern
Milivojević did not shy away from suggesting that the culprits are identifiable, pointing to a familiar pattern of criminal behavior and motive behind the attack.
“It is not difficult to recognize those responsible for this crime,” he said, stressing that such incidents are recurring because of the same actors who oppose honest journalism in Kosovo.
He further expressed hope that this latest attack would prompt swift justice, both for the current case and previous unpunished incidents.
“I have unwavering confidence that the perpetrators of this latest criminal act, as well as those behind the previous attack, will soon be held accountable. Their cowardly actions will only strengthen Nevenka Medić’s resolve to continue her professional work.”
This is not the first attack on Medić’s property. In 2015, a car in the same street and near the same location, also privately owned by her but used for editorial purposes, was completely set on fire. The investigation into that incident has yet to yield any charges or arrests.
Previously, the French Embassy in Kosovo, along with journalists’ associations in Belgrade and Pristina, also condemned the attack on the property of the KoSSev portal’s director.
