Srdjan Milivojevic, a member of the Democratic Party (DS), said that representatives of the ruling majority in the Serbian Parliament did not allow an Investigative Committee to be formed in order to determine the truth about the crime in the Pec cafe „Panda“.
On March 20th, DS MPs Zoran Lutovac, Dragana Rakic, Nebojsa Novakovic, Nenad Markovic and Srdjan Milivojevic submitted a request to form an Investigative Committee to look into the murder of six young men in the „Panda“ cafe.
Milivojevic told Beta news agency that the current convocation of the Serbian Parliament will not vote on the decision on the formation of an Investigative Committee, because, as he alleged, one of the key witnesses would have to be the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.
„It is shocking that Vucic stated on several occasions in the last ten years that he possesses almost all the information about the crime in ‘Panda’ and that the public will be shocked when the truth is announced. The investigation at the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime has been going on for seven years and has not yet been completed. It is unacceptable that the prosecution did not invite Vucic to disclose all the information he has,“ said Milivojevic.
He added that the families of the young men slain in „Panda“ supported the proposal to form an Investigative Committee.
„It is terrible to know that several parents died without knowing the truth about the suffering of their sons,“ this MP said.
Milivojevic says that MPs from the ruling parties have not shown interest in forming survey committees for several other crimes that occurred in Serbia.
„The regime does not allow the formation of survey committees for the murder of Oliver Ivanovic, the actions of the Veljko Belivuk clan, the suffering of Stanika Gligorijevic, the death of a miner in the ‘Soko’ mine… This is an unpleasant topic for the government and they would prefer to hide these tragedies and crimes,“ Milivojevic claimed.
In the request submitted four months ago by the MPs from the ranks of DS, it was stated that the goal of the survey committee would be to determine the truth about the crime in the „Panda“ cafe, in which six young men were killed on December 14, 1998.
The request emphasized that the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, should give a statement before the committee, who said in 2013 and 2015 that the crime was not committed by Albanians and that he was „almost certain“ that he knew what happened in „Panda“, but that „there is no evidence.“
Ivan Obradovic (15), Zoran Stanojevic (18), Vukota Gvozdenovic (16), Svetislav Ristic (18), Ivan Radevic and Dragan Trifovic (18) were killed in the cafe „Panda“. Vlado Loncarevic (18) and Mirsad Sabovic were seriously injured, while Nikola Rajovic (18) sustained minor injuries.
The investigation into this crime was initiated on May 12, 2016, at the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime in Belgrade.
